# MicroStation standard/default color table - MSet reference

releaseId: `20260919-v35`
knowledgeVersion: `2026.09.19-v35`
branch: `64`
status: **canonical-development**

## Purpose

This reference gives MSet AI a complete numeric `color index -> RGB` dataset for the Bentley-published **standard MicroStation color table**. Load it on demand whenever a question materially concerns that standard/default table itself: its numeric indices, RGB values, `BG` background entry, basic semantic aliases, or a possible color-name mapping.

**Loading/consulting the reference does not itself authorize a project-specific `co=` mapping.** Before converting a human color name into a numeric `co=` for an instruction, the user must explicitly confirm that the Bentley standard/default color table applies, unless an authoritative project/DGN contract independently establishes this same mapping. A project-specific or DGN-attached color table always has priority over this generic reference.

## Important scope boundary

- The RGB table below is the standard table published by Bentley in KB0039766.
- `MS_DEFCTBL` means the default color table used when a DGN file has no attached color table; Bentley documents that this variable can point to a different `.tbl` file. Therefore **`MS_DEFCTBL` does not by itself prove that the RGB values below are active**.
- A DGN can contain an attached/custom color table that overrides the default mapping.
- The reference may be consulted to answer questions about the Bentley standard/default table itself, but do not silently convert a color name to `co=` for project authoring merely because this reference exists. First establish that this standard table applies.
- The Bentley export contains numeric indices `0..254` plus a separate `BG` background entry. `BG` is not treated here as a normal numeric element-color index.

## MSet semantic alias layer

The following aliases are an **MSet interpretation aid**, not Bentley-authored color names. They may be used automatically only after the standard-table applicability rule above has been satisfied:

| User color wording | Standard index | RGB | Authoring form |
| --- | ---: | --- | --- |
| white / biela / bílá | 0 | 255,255,255 | `co=0` |
| blue / modrá | 1 | 0,0,255 | `co=1` |
| green / zelená | 2 | 0,255,0 | `co=2` |
| red / červená | 3 | 255,0,0 | `co=3` |
| yellow / žltá / žlutá | 4 | 255,255,0 | `co=4` |
| magenta / purpurová | 5 | 255,0,255 | `co=5` |
| orange / oranžová | 6 | 255,127,0 | `co=6` |
| cyan / turquoise / aqua / tyrkysová / azúrová | 7 | 0,255,255 | `co=7` |

Do **not** silently extend this alias list to subjective or ambiguous names such as `purple/fialová`, `light blue`, `dark green`, `gray/sivá/šedá`, `beige`, or similar shades. The table contains many possible candidates and multiple repeated/nearby RGB values. For such wording, show one or more candidate indices/RGB values and ask the user to confirm the intended choice before emitting a numeric `co=` mapping.

`black / čierna / černá` is also not auto-mapped: the Bentley export lists black as the separate `BG` background entry, not as one of the numeric `0..254` rows in this dataset.

When a basic alias is used, surface the resolved numeric index in the answer or resulting authoring explanation. Example: if the user confirms the standard table and asks for `červená`, state that the mapping used is `co=3` (RGB 255,0,0).

## Mandatory lookup procedure for MSet authoring

Treat `human color name -> numeric co=` as a **lookup operation, never a memory operation**. The rule applies even to basic colors and even when the same reference was already loaded earlier in the conversation.

1. Preserve the user's current semantic color request exactly (for example `zelená`).
2. Establish which color-table mapping is authoritative. Prefer a verified project/DGN mapping; otherwise require confirmation that this Bentley standard/default table applies.
3. If you ask that applicability question, keep the color request pending. A bare `yes/no` answer confirms only the table choice; it does **not** change `zelená` into another color.
4. For this emission, explicitly look up the requested name in the applicable alias/mapping table. Do not reuse a remembered `co=` value from model knowledge or an earlier turn.
5. Cross-check the resolved numeric index against its RGB row in the authoritative table.
6. Only after steps 1-5 emit `co=<index>` or an XML/key-in fragment that contains it.
7. Repeat steps 1, 4 and 5 for **every subsequent color request**, including short follow-ups such as `a červený?`, `zelený`, or `áno` after an applicability question.
8. If the authoritative mapping cannot be consulted, the requested semantic color is ambiguous, or the cross-check fails, do not emit a numeric `co=` value.

Sanity invariants for this Bentley standard/default table (validation aid only; not a substitute for the lookup procedure):

- `blue / modrá` = index `1` = RGB `0,0,255`
- `green / zelená` = index `2` = RGB `0,255,0`
- `red / červená` = index `3` = RGB `255,0,0`
